Some of Chrome’s Most Helpful Tips

We  spend a good part of our life using Google Chrome, so it makes sense to use it effectively. Today we’ll take a look at some useful features of Google Chrome. So fire up your Google

Chrome and let’s get started.

Upload Images Directly

So you come across an interesting image on the internet and want to share it with your friends. Now the traditional way to do that is to first download it to your computer and then upload it. But there is a better way to do that which doesn’t involves saving the image to your computer! All you have to do is right-click on the image and click on Copy image URL. Then head over to the website where you want to share it, select the upload from the Computer option and paste the URL in the File Name area. Now click the Open button. Wait for a few seconds as it searches for the image from the browser cache and then it will upload it directly to the web. It is as simple as that!

Keyboard Shortcuts

I’m a great fan of keyboard shortcuts. Recently I stumbled across a few shortcuts which aren’t that common but can greatly help you with your productivity. So for instance I’m searching for Antivirus Updates on Google and after a while I intend to open up a new site. So instead of scrolling all the way to the top of the page, I can simply press Ctrl + L to highlight the omnibox. Another useful keyboard shortcut is Ctrl + Shift + R. What it does is refresh the current tab and clear the cache. You can also get this option by turning on the Developer Mode and then right-clicking the Refresh button. This feature comes in particularly handy if you’re either a Web Developer or if you want to check the real-time changes you made on your website without having to go into Incognito Mode.

Managing Extensions

Google Chrome extensions are very useful. However, if you install too many of them they start cluttering the omnibox. In order to get a distraction free interface, you can simply drag the right side of the omnibox and hide them. If you want to access them quickly, head over to the Extensions page and scroll down to the bottom of the page until you see the Keyboard shortcuts button. And from there you can easily assign a custom shortcut to each of them. And from then onwards, whenever you want to use any extension, simply hit the assigned shortcut and there you go.

Using Cloud Print

Google Cloud Print is an awesome feature, but very few people know of it. It turns your regular printer into a cloud printer. And it let’s you take a printout from any computer or smartphone as far as both of them are connected to the same Google account. Simply put, it turns your regular printer into a wireless printer. In order to add a local printer to the cloud, visit the  official website and click on Try it now. Select your printer from the list and that’s all. From now onwards this printer is linked to your Google account and you can take a printout from any other computer as long as you’re logged into the same Google account. For smartphones, you will have to download Cloud Print App from the Play Store.

Exploring Chrome Flags

Chrome Flags are experimental features that add that extra bit of functionality to the browser. Since they are in the experimental stage, there is no 100% guarantee that they will always work. But here are a couple of stable ones.

Head over to Chrome Flags by typing in chrome://flags in the omnibox and press Enter. Now press Ctrl + F1 and search for Overlay Scrollbars and enable it. Restart your browser now. What it basically does is it replaces your default scrollbar with a minimal one which takes little place and also auto-hides itself.

Another handy one is Offline Auto-Reload Mode. This flag will auto-reload your page whenever the browser is connected to the internet again. So you don’t have to press the refresh the button again and again.
