So you bought a brand new, shiny PC sometime back and expected it to retain its sheen for a long time. However, you later discovered it was all good looking from the outside, it was a completely different story from the inside. Your machine became full of crud, gunk and duplicate iTunes music that clogs up tens of GBs and slows down the machine.
Though Windows has a built-in mechanism to get rid of old installation files, dump files, old backups, cached contents, temps, web temps and so on, it sadly lacks a feature that finds and cleans up duplicate files (all file types). So how will you deal with growing number of duplicate iTunes media items? Read on…
Sorcim’s Clone Files Checker gives your PC a completely new lease of life. A periodic cleanup frees up system resources thereby making it run faster & make your routine computing tasks easier. It also prevents hard drives from getting clogged with piles of duplicate (or more copies) of the original file.
The program comes configured with settings that are recommended for most users, which help to make the scan process very simple, thorough, swift and effective at the same time. It can efficiently look for almost all music file types that are compatible with iTunes, Microsoft Groove Music, Windows Media Player, VLC Media Player etc.
All you have to do is simply download, install and finally run Clone Files Checker. Add as many drives and folders that you suspect contain few or a lot of duplicate audio / video files. To make matters even easier for you, we’ve listed out the most widely used default music folders below. To scan iTunes directly you can select the ‘iTunes Mode’ of CFC. Make sure the iTunes library XML is shared with other applications. You can find this setting in Preferences > Advanced option of iTunes.
Choose the Custom option to find only a specific set of duplicate files. Check the “Music” box to search to search for all files that come under this category in every nook and corner of your PC. Now you can start the scan by clicking on “Start Search”.
The scan will bring out 100% accurate results swiftly. It will also go into great details while displaying the scan results like number of dupes found, total disk space consumed and other support information. You only have to choose whether to take a specific action on all dupes irrespective of their locations, or gather results into a list box for reviewing and then taking different actions for different sets of dupes. Choose Quick-Fix or Review & Fix as per your requirement.
And the most interesting part is you DON’T stand a chance of losing any important file, as such a happening would make the entire duplicate cleaning process useless. Just like Windows automatically creates a System Restore Point before making major changes to your system settings, Clone Files Checker compresses all dupes and then creates a backup for every single one of them so that they can be restored at any point in the future. The backup itself doesn’t takes up much space on the hard drive, so you don’t need to worry about that issue. You can even restore or delete your backups (to free up even more storage resources) if you are really sure you want to do so. If you want to do so, just head to the History tab and select the appropriate option.
And just in case you are worrying and still not entirely sure, Clone Files Checker has another feature that allows you to move all duplicates to any folder of your choice before you take any action. This gives you the ease to review all the dupes and then decide on the action to be taken.
